Lynchburg is for Lovers — of the Outdoors, Arts, History & Shopping

The Virginian Hotel is a centerpiece in the heart of Downtown Lynchburg. No matter what your favorite pastimes are, we are confident there is something perfect for you just blocks away.

Outdoor & Recreation

Whether you like to walk, run, climb, bike, or skate, Lynchburg has something to offer you. Downtown Lynchburg is just a 30-minute drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway, America’s most scenic drive that extends 470 miles linking Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks. Or you can go for a stroll along the James River to Percival’s Island. The trail passes by Lynchburg’s picture-perfect LOVE sign. Check out the link below for a full list of outdoor activities close by.

Shopping

From shops stocked with local goods to one-of-a-kind boutiques — you’ll find something you have to take home. While you’re at The Virginian, be sure to check out our own retail shop, featuring Moore & Giles leather goods. Founded in 1933 in Lynchburg, Moore & Giles is dedicated to designing and developing innovative and luxurious leathers. Local Arts & Culture

The Academy Center of the Arts is just across the street and hosts a variety of shows and events throughout the year. If you have little ones, don’t miss Lynchburg’s award-winning, hands-on museum: Amazement Square. The Maier Museum of Art is only a few minutes away and even closer is our own collection of art throughout the hotel. In 2021, The Virginian was recognized with the Top 25 Historic Hotels of America Most Magnificent Art Collections designation. Our Art

We have partnered with our neighbors at the Academy Center of the Arts to showcase a new regional artist every quarter in our gallery, located on the main level of the hotel. Our gallery is available for viewing when you are a guest of the hotel, and the pieces featured are available for purchase. Please inquire at the front desk if you’d like to purchase one of our guest artists’ works, or shop the collection online at the link below:

History

Lynchburg and our surrounding areas are full of history. From museums to civil war sites, there is so much to see within an hour of the city. Climb the stairs at Monument Terrace, just a brief walk from the hotel. The inspiring rise of Monument Terrace commemorates Lynchburg citizens who fought and died in war. Or, just a short 20-minute drive to the west of Lynchburg, Poplar Forest was Thomas Jefferson’s secluded retreat and is now a National Historic Landmark. Visit the link below to see a full list of historic sites and activities.

Local Events

From outdoor concerts to theatrical performances to local celebrations, Lynchburg offers a wide variety of events and entertainment throughout the year. See a complete listing of upcoming events on the Downtown Lynchburg Association website by visiting the link below.
